There are a number of supplementation products designed to enhance your cat's health. One such product contains an immune boosting component known as transfer factors. If your cat is in ill health from an immune system disorder, a long term chronic illness, or is in a weakened state due to a recent surgery or injury, many veterinarians are saying these products may help.

In order to understand how this works, it's necessary to understand a little about how the immune system works. Transfer factors are protein molecules and are part of the immune system.

Like people, dogs, and monkeys, cats are mammals. All mammals have an immune system that protects them from disease.

In a healthy immune system, foreign invaders, such as bacteria, are recognized and the body mounts a defense against them. Certain specialized cells are called on to attack the invaders. When the invader is defeated, the attack is called off. This is a proper immune response.

Sometimes, however, things don't go quite right with the immune response. For example, in cats with certain conditions, such as feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), the immune system is compromised and has trouble defending the cat's body against invaders. This is the feline version of HIV-AIDS, and causes the immune system to under perform.

In other cases, the immune system is misdirected and doesn't shut itself off when it should. In autoimmune diseases, such as many forms of arthritis, an immune response is mounted against the body's own tissues.

How do transfer factors work? Transfer factors act as messengers. They call the immune system to action, and then call off the attack at the appropriate time.

In this respect, transfer factors are essential to proper immune system function. Also, notice that they don't just increase disease fighting capability, they balance or modulate the immune system. This means it can be used on cats with autoimmune diseases as well as cats with under performing immune systems.

Dietary supplements are available for your cat, combining the immune balancing power of transfer factors with nutrients that are beneficial to the overall well-being of your cat.

There are a number of veterinarians using homeopathic techniques, and some have added products containing transfer factor to their recommendations. If you're interested in boosting the immune system of your cat with transfer factors, check first to ensure your vet is open to the idea, and that there are no negative interactions.

The most common infectious skin disease in cats, cat ringworm is not a worm, but a fungal infection. It is highly contagious and can be spread to all the animals and people in the house.

It's a self-limiting disease, meaning that it will clear up on its own. In many cases the disease resolves within 6 to 8 weeks. Stubborn cases, however, may persist for weeks or months even with treatment. Cats with compromised immune systems may take longer. In any case, your veterinarian may prescribe treatment no matter what, since it is very common for animals to pass this disease to humans and other animals.

Ringworm, or dermatophytosis, is a fungus which feeds on keratin. Keratin is a protein found in skin, hair and nails.

The disease gets its name from the round ring-like appearance seen on the skin. The classic ringworm symptom presents as patches of hair loss which appear as circular scaly areas with raised edges. These symptoms are fairly easy to spot.

The most common locations for infection are the head, face, ears, tail, and paws. Early symptoms include dry, flaky skin. In addition, you may see bald areas on ears, the legs, and around the eyes.

Cats with compromised immune systems may experience more severe symptoms, including crusty lesions that may become infected, red and sore.

The symptoms list for cat ringworm includes loss of hair (or broken hair) in circular patterns and hair loss in irregular patterns. Also visible is scaly, bumpy, red, or inflamed skin, and possibly deformed claws. Your cat may scratch the affected areas, but not all cases present with itchiness, and some cats may experience little to no hair loss with this disease.

Only your veterinarian can diagnose cat ringworm. You should call your veterinarian if you suspect your cat has this illness.

Cat ringworm is the most common infectious skin disease in domestic felines. It's actually not a worm at all, but a contagious fungal infection that is easily spread.

In otherwise healthy cats, the disease often resolves itself within 6 to 8 weeks. To prevent the spread of the disease and to resolve it more quickly, your veterinarian may prescribe treatment. More difficult cases may take weeks or months even with treatment. Cats with compromised immune systems may take even longer and experience more severe symptoms.

Ringworm is also referred to as dermatophytosis. It's a fungus which feeds on the keratin protein found in nails, skin, and hair.

This disease gets its name from the easy to spot, round ring-like marks it leaves on the skin. The classic ringworm symptom presents as patches of hair loss which appear as circular scaly areas with raised edges.

The initial symptoms include dry, flaky skin. The most common locations for infection are the head, face, ears, tail, and paws. In addition, you may see bald areas on the legs, ears, and around the eyes.

More serious symptoms may develop if your cat's immune system is compromised. If left untreated, your cat may develop crusty lesions that become sore, red, and infected.

Cat ringworm symptoms include hair loss and broken hair in circular or irregular patterns. You may also see bumpy, scaly, red, or inflamed skin, and possibly deformed claws. The affected areas do not always itch, and some cats may experience little to no hair loss with this disease.

Cat ringworm is the most common infectious skin disease in domestic felines. It's actually not a worm at all, but a contagious fungal infection that is easily spread.

In many cases this disease resolves itself, without treatment, within 6 to 8 weeks. Since it's very common for cats to pass this disease on, your veterinarian may prescribe treatment anyway. Cats with compromised immune systems may take longer to heal and may not heal at all without treatment.

Ringworm is also referred to as dermatophytosis. It's a fungus which feeds on the keratin protein found in nails, skin, and hair.

In severe cases in cats with compromised immune systems, more serious symptoms may develop. If left untreated, crusty lesions that may become red and sore, as well as infected may develop.

Cat ringworm symptoms include broken hair and hair loss, either in irregular or circular patterns throughout the body, although some cats may lose no hair. You may also notice bumpy, scaly, red, or inflamed skin, and deformed claws. The affected areas may or may not itch.

The Maine Coon Cat which must be one of the biggest of the domestic breed of cats is readily recogised by its lovely bushy tail and its striped and long fur. The Maine Coon Cat belongs to North America and not surprisingly is a native of the state of Maine, and it is the State Cat.

The Maine Coon is not a new cat, it has been around for over a hundred years and it is generally thought that their large size, and the way that their paws are made and the density of their fur makes them able to put up with the severe winters which are often experienced in New England. On top of this, their fur is such that it is able to repel water really well.

Could the Maine Coon have come into existence as a result of the local domestic cats mating with cats brought over by the Vikings? There is after all a definite likeness between the Maine Coon, and the Norwegian Forest Cat. Some people think this is a more likely possibilty rather than the suggestion that local cats mated with raccoons, an idea which has been discounted by the experts.

At one time only the brown tabbie was considered to be a proper Maine Coon, any cat of a different color was called a Maine Shag Cat. The people who have studied the Maine Coon over the years are generally of the opinion that long haired cats from overseas, probably Europe, mated with the domestic short haired cat, and produced what we know today as the Maine Coon.

Maine Coons have very special personaities similar in many ways to the family dog. Call out their name, and they will come bounding towards you. Go out for the day, and on your return you will find them eagerly waiting for you on the doorstep. They love people, and other animals, and in return they like a lot of love and attention themselves.

Maine Coons were once a favorite among those who participated in early cat shows - as far back as 1861, but in the 1900's, Persians came onto the scene, and the Maine Coon lost a bit of popularity. They once again started gaining popularity in the 1950s. The Maine Coon Breeders and Fanciers Association were formed in 1968, by six breeders. The purpose of the organization was to preserve and protect the Maine Coon Cat breed. This breed of domestic cat was not recognized by all cat registries, however, until 1980.

Nowadays there are many, many people who are fortunate enough to own, exhibit and love a Maine Coon Cat. The Association which was founded many years ago by a mere six breeders has now grown to well over 200 breeders, and there are over 2000 other members who are not breeders as well.

Your cat has a hard time telling you when she's ill. Here are some of the major cat illness symptom categories and how to spot problems.

Pay attention to changes in your cat's behavior as this can indicate signs of illness. Cats tend to disguise signs of pain and illness as a throw-back to their wild days.

Elimination problems -- Cats may experience a number of issues involving urination, defecation, and litter boxes.

Some urinary tract problems can be life threatening. FLUTD (feline lower urinary tract disease) is a label for a group of problems that can involve crystals, stones, infection, or inflammation.

Cats self-groom regularly, but excessive licking in the anal or groin area can be a sign of illness. If your cat is urinating more often than normal, this can be a sign of an illness such as diabetes.

Constipation is fairly common in cats. Treatments are available for this, and include store bought and veterinarian prescribed treatments such as lactulose.

Impacted anal glands my also be a factor which will require treatment. It should be noted that long term constipation may lead to a serious bowel condition known as megacolon.

If your cat makes frequent but unsuccessful trips to the litter box, or is howling or crying out while attempting to use the box, she may have some physical problem that needs attention. Also, a common sign of trouble is the act of scooting across the floor while dragging the rear end.

If your cat is not urinating or defecating or is missing the litter box, contact your veterinarian immediately. Inappropriate elimination is common and is the number one cause that adult cats are brought to shelters. It has a number of physical and behavioral causes. You should address any medical problems first.

Other things to look for are evidence of blood in urine or feces, including black tarry stools. Diarrhea may indicate intestinal disease and can lead to dehydration, which can be fatal.

Eye and mouth problems -- The haw, or nictating membrane, is a "third eyelid" that you will sometimes see when a cat's eyes are open. This is often an indication of illness. Check your cat's eyes for cloudiness, pupils of uneven size, or discharge.

Ulcers in the mouth, bad breath, and loose teeth are signs of disease. Pallor of the gums and lips is a sign that your cat may be anemic.

Hair and skin problems -- Poor coat or problem skin can be a sure sign of cat illness. In fact, the coat and skin of your cat can be used as a measure of overall health.

A poor or oily looking coat is a sign of illness. If you notice that cat has stopped grooming, it's a sure sign of a problem.

Parasites are usually easily spotted on the skin or coat on the belly. Your cat should be checked at least once per week. Also look for excessive dryness or flaking, hair loss, skin growths, and any kind of swelling or skin eruption.

There are certainly other health problems that your cat may encounter, but these are a few of the major categories. Keeping alert to your cat's routine, and being sensitive to any of the possible above problems is an integral part of cat care.

Your cat has a hard time telling you when she's ill. Here are some of the major cat illness symptom categories and how to spot problems.

Cats are very good at hiding discomfort and signs of illness, but sometimes this comes out as a change in behavior. If you notice a change in your cat's typical routine, you'll want to check for a physical problem.

Defecation and urination -- A number of cat health issues present as urination and defecation issues.

FLUTD (feline lower urinary tract disease) is a group of problems and can involve stones, crystals, infection, or inflammation. Some of these urinary tract problems can be life threatening.

Excessive urination can be a sign of cat illness such as feline diabetes. Excessive licking in the groin or anal area can be a sign of problems.

Occasional constipation is common in cats, and is most often caused by hairballs. Treatments are available for this, and include store bought hairball remedies as well as veterinarian prescribed treatments such as lactulose.

Constipation over the long term may lead to a serious bowel condition known as megacolon. Impacted anal glands may present and will require treatment.

If your cat is howling or crying out while using the litter box, or makes frequent but unsuccessful trips to the box, she may have some physical problem that needs to be looked at. Also, a common sign of trouble is scooting across the floor while dragging the rear end.

If you notice that your cat is not using the litter box, always assume a physical cause may be at fault. If your cat is not urinating or defecating or is missing the litter box, contact your veterinarian.

Diarrhea may indicate intestinal disease and can lead to dehydration, which can be fatal. Other things to look for are evidence of blood in urine or feces, including black tarry stools.

Eye and mouth problems -- The haw, or nictating membrane, is a "third eyelid" that you will sometimes see when a cat's eyes are open. This is often an indication of illness. Check your cat's eyes for cloudiness, pupils of uneven size, or discharge.

Pallor of the lips and gums is a sign of disease and could indicate anemia. Other possible cat illness symptoms include bad breath, ulcers in the mouth, and obviously, loose teeth.

Skin and hair issues -- The skin and coat of your cat can be used as a measure of overall health. Poor coat or problem skin can be a sure sign of cat illness.

A poor or oily looking coat is a sign of illness. If you notice that cat has stopped grooming, it's a sure sign of a problem.

Also look for swelling, hair loss, excessive dryness or flaking, or skin eruption or growths. Check your cat at least once per week for parasites.

These are a few of the major categories of cat health problems. Keeping alert to your cat's routine, and being sensitive to any of the possible above problems is an essential part of cat care.

You want a kitty cat that is going to behave and not drive you batty! So, that doesn't seems like a far fetched request. But if you expect to achieve cat training in ten minutes, then you have another thing coming. Cat training is crucial to the proper development of your cat and in order to have some sort of behaviorally control in your home, it is worth your time investment. While cat training in ten minutes is a fancy idea, it simply is not the reality of today's cat owner. The truth is that cat training in 10 minutes just isn't going to happen, so go ahead and shelve that idea and let's move on to what does work.

Without constant reinforcement and positive reinforcement, teaching your cat the fundamentals of good behavior, simply will not happen. You are not a magician, so there is not a magic wand that will suddenly make your cat do what you want her to do. But have no fear, there are several cat training aids on today's market that can help you to guide your cat towards appropriate behavior.

It is vital to curb your cat's wild and hyper behavior and one of the key ways to do so, is to make sure that they are getting enough exercise. Most cats adore items like soft balls of yarn. Cats are playful by nature and kittens like to play with just anything, so make sure you accommodate them. Be smart and avoid having them play with fragile or especially small items. This makes yarns or soft balls the perfect solution. You might even find that your older cats enjoy playing with similar items.

Most cat owners enjoy teaching their cats a few tricks. Cats can be taught to shake hands or fetch something. Again, remember consistency and reinforcing positive behavior are key to cat training. Cat beats are good rewards and will make the tricks fun for your cats as well!

Much like kids, cats will occasionally get into a fight. So what should you do? Well, a little spray of water is an easy solution. Spraying the battling cats with water when they act out with undesired behavior will eventually reinforce your message of "knock it off". The light water spay is a harmless way to train your cat; after all, have you ever known a cat that loved water?

Your local pet store will have a well thought out selection of cat training aids and even though none of them can guarantee cat training in ten minutes, they certainly can be a part of your care care training box. So whether you decide to pick up a scratching post, a fancy litter box, a toilet training tool, or a variety of other cat toys, make a trip to the pet store so that you have items on hand that can help you with cat training.

The important thing to remember is that training your cat will not happen over night...no matter how much you want it to. Cat training is a crucial part of cat care and if not executed correctly, you will be to your wits-end and your cat will be the head of YOUR house. So make the choice to train your cat well.

When a national rescue society request you for a help out of an abandoned canine, think yourself fortunate to have found a new foster dog. Whether he appears like a gem or some ordinary dog, he is yours and yours alone for protection. Like any other loving parent, you are now allocated to a special task ahead.

During the foster stay you will be dealt with by teaching him, training him and above all provide food, shelter and love the pup like your own. Once you accept the dog on your service, you will become the one and only special person to the dog. However, there will be a time when the dog needs to be transferred to another home; this will be really hard and your tears might just come welling in your eyes if the perfect family comes along.

Guardianship for dogs is considered not only by the tasks you carry out for the little pup. Rather, it's quantified through the amount of time you give to the dog; it is also about taking care of him whether he is or is not your own. But rather than thinking of saying goodbye to your "foster " canine, bear in mind that you have a heap of tasks on hand. You are now in front of a new life with an added member of the family.

Foster Care for Dogs: The First Steps - Fostering a dog may seem like a formidable task, but it is a very tangible way to make a differences. Initial steps are the most crucial and the foremost step is to assess if the canine is housetrained. If he is not, then start teaching him with the basics plus supervise him constantly. On the other hand, if the dog is not in good health, nurturing and treating would be the topmost of your priorities. It normally takes few weeks to months before the dog can finally recover from the trauma.

In the first few days of your supervision, let the dog start working with the prime commands. Together with that, reward your dog by ambling him from time to time. Make the care for dogs a pleasing and enduring experience for you and your canine.
