Looking back at your canine friend's origins, a dog is a descendant of wolves. Basically, although dogs have been domesticated thousands of years before, there are some characteristics similar to a wolf that is by instinct ingrained within your pet. For example, the sense of smell is like reading a newspaper for the dog. It tells everything just with a smell. Unlike for us, we need to see, hear and even feel to understand what's going on. In other words, although domesticated they still retain some of their most basic instincts. You have to keep that in mind before going off to tame your dog.

Once you accept a Shih Tzu into your life, you marvel at how vivacious and friendly they are. They can help you cope with your problems by helping you take a different perspective - theirs. After a couple of years, you begin to wonder how you ever could have existed without a Shih Tzu, because they bring you so much and ask for so little in return. Once you get to know one Shih Tzu, you can't help but care for the welfare of all Shih Tzus and all dogs.

These torture chambers for dogs are called puppy mills. There, dogs have no exercise, usually no vet care and live in tiny wire cages until they can no longer breed, then they are shot or pummeled to death. One central Pennsylvania puppy mill worker defended puppy mills as saying that "Puppies are biodegradable." (Source: Philadelphia Inquirer.) Very rarely do people buy directly from puppy mills - they buy indirectly through pet stores that sell puppies and through web sites.

The history of the Siberian Husky is similar to that of other members of the Spitz group such as the Chow Chow and Pomeranian. This breed descended from Arctic sled dogs and was purebred in an isolated area of Siberia for hundreds of years. An Eskimo Siberian Husky breeder selected the most attractive and brightest-eyed huskies for breeding. This may be why the Siberian Husky so closely resembles the wolf, even though it is no closer related to wolves than other dog breeds. These dogs, along with the Alaskan Malamute and Samoyed, are directly descended from the Eskimo dog and have been utilized throughout history as sled dogs.

The American Kennel Club recognized the Siberian Husky as a breed in 1930. Since that time, huskies have been used more for show than sledding. However, the breed retains wolf-like physical and behavioral traits. Typical Siberian Husky characteristics include high-set, pointed ears, thick, double coats of fur, a furry, sickle-shaped tail, and wolf-like personality traits such as stubbornness, independence and suspicion. Siberian Huskies have distinctive facial markings, medium sized compact bodies, and blue or brown eyes (or one of each color).

When you decide to do business with a Chihuahua breeder you aren't buying a lamp from someone you will never see again, you are buying a pet that you will be raising in partnership with your breeder. Make sure you do a thorough check of your breeder before you do business with them, as you need to be completely comfortable that they are the right breeder for you. A reputable breeder will not try and hide anything from you and a reputable breeder will insist that you do all of your own researching so that you find that breeder that is perfect for you.

Begin your search by asking what national breeder registry the breeder belongs to. Check it out for yourself and see what you think of that registry's breeding standards. The one registry that everyone knows is the American Kennel Club but there are other registries out there and they can all be accessed on the Internet. If a breeder does not belong to a registry this should set off a warning in your head.
