Many a person longs to own a beautiful Golden Retriever but understandably has second thoughts when they consider how lively a puppy is. Perhaps you are one of these people? Well the answer might well lie in adopting a more mature Golden, one who will easily adapt to your family and lifestyle, and one that will not be as disruptive as a puppy.

Where do you find an older Golden. Well your first stop should be your nearest breeder because strange as it may seem they often do have older dogs for sale. It may be a retired show dog, or a dog which has produced several litters and will not be needed again. There is a whole host of reasons why they might have a mature dog they wish to find a home for, so, give them a call and enquire.

One of the great things of course about adopting a more mature dog is that somebody else has already spent plenty of time and patience getting them house trained. Yes they will need to have a period of getting used to your particular family situation, but the training required for this is nothing compared to the training of a new puppy. You will need to give them lots of love and attention, but this will be a pleasure, not a chore.

If you have been thinking of adopting an older Golden Retriever, you should make sure that you learn everything you can about him. You should also determine his temperament, and whether or not it's compatible with your family. You should also learn important things as well, such as his diet, likes, dislikes, daily routine, and his habits. Before you decide to take him, you should always make sure that the members of your family meet him as well, so you can talk it over and decide whether or not everyone wants the dog to be a member of your family.

With an older dog, you need to take care of him for the first days, and let him know where everything in your home is. You'll need to show him where he sleeps, where he should use the bathroom, and where his food is. Take your time and be patient with him, as it will normally take him a few days to learn how things in your home work.

Its not a bad idea, once your dog has had a month or so to settle in, to take them to an obedience training class somewhere. In your initial meeting with the person who is handing over the dog to you they may well tell you that they have been to training classes in the past. But the thing is that you have not been to the classes with your dog, and this makes a big difference. Do enrol in a class somewhere near to your home, and together you will learn a lot about each other and how to harmoniously get on together.

All Golden Retrievers, regardless of their age, love attention. Older Golden's on the other hand, may have medical problems that you aren't aware of. You shouldn't let this stop you from getting one though, simply because the rewards that you'll find are far greater than any cons that may come to mind. Although many people don't give a lot of thought to getting an older Golden Retriever - they are perfect for families who don't want to put up the time and troubles of raising a puppy.

I brought my pair of Nikon Monarch Binoculars about four months ago and I fell in love with them straight away. I brought them mainly for bird watching, and as I wanted a good pair of binoculars I spent quite a bit of time researching. They have a really nice feel are well balanced and weigh only 689grams with the strap on! I've even dropped them once on concrete and there was no damage done.

I recently took them with me when I went on safari in Kenya. They were excellent for viewing animals at a distance from the safety of our jeep. Without these binoculars the trip would not have been half as good. The optic quality of the Nikon monarch binoculars is so good that I could pick out the features on people's faces in a distant village when I was looking into the sun.

My father-in-law, also an avid birdwatcher, thinks these are the best binoculars you can use. He has invited me along on almost all of his trips ever since I got them. The quality of these binoculars is fantastic for the small price you pay. If you want to the top class pair of Nikon binoculars you could easily expect to pay over $2000, but you would be heartbroken if you lost or damaged them. I would not lose any sleep if I lost my new Nikon monarchs as they are affordably replaceable.

I always point out to people that the optic technology is moving so fast, all the $2000 binoculars will be less than 500 in a matter of years.

There was lunar eclipse last week, and I had a chance to try out my Nikon monarch's at night. There was a group of us who went out off the city to get a good view of the eclipse, between us all there were three different pairs of good-quality binoculars. My monarchs were by far the best! This was unfortunate for me as it meant I had to share them with the rest of the group for the entire night.

One of the good points about buying a pair of Nikon's are the options that come standard on their binoculars. These include being waterproof and having fog prevention on their lenses, these are great qualities to have in any binoculars. There is also an extended eye relief option for people who will be wearing glasses, or using the binoculars for long periods of time.

The Nikon monarch binoculars are past all my tests with flying colours over and over, I don't think I'll ever be switching to a different model - just upgrading these! Highly recommend!

What Everyone Should Know About PoIt can definitely be intimidating trying to decide on a particular breed of dog, there are after all hundreds of different breeds that one can choose from. The Poodle is definitely one fan favorite however, and it is really no wonder why. These dogs make great family pets because they are even tempered, even around young children. Besides this they are also affectionate, loving and make great watchdogs because they are always alert and on guard.

With sustained popularity, Poodle breeding is commonplace. There are good breeders and bad, but it is easy to tell the difference. Experienced breeders know that there are a few issues that need to be considered before one goes ahead and buys a Poodle, and in particular this refers to Poodle care.

Because these dogs are very high maintenance and require much more in terms of their care than most other breeds of dog. Brushing, bathing, trimming, clipping, vaccinations - all of these are important parts of Poodle care and necessary for any Poodle owner to take care of. There are many things that should be considered here but a few in particular which are especially important.

Vaccinations are one of the most important parts of Poodle breeding, and should continue well after the puppies are sent home with new owners. This is because it is these vaccinations that help to prevent the dog from getting infectious diseases.

This includes rabies, parvovirus, distemper and hepatitis. In some cases vaccinations can cause the immune system to overact and so any owner should be sure to keep an eye on the dog for the few hours immediately following the vaccinations.

It takes a considerable amount of monetary investment to begin Poodle breeding. Purchasing well-bred parents or paying stud fees can cost thousands of dollars. Maintaining roomy clean kennels, nutritional food and quality veterinary care costs a lot of money. And selling the puppies may not be all that profitable, depending on market conditions. Poodle breeding is truly a labor of love for the breed and only for the most dedicated dog lovers.

Poodle breeding, as with breeding any dog, takes years to learn. A large cash investment is necessary to purchase well-bred parents, pay stud fees, maintain clean kennels, obtain quality veterinary services, supply high quality food and other breeding needs. Love of the breed is required and the ability to whelp the puppies as family members and then give them up to new families can be difficult. Some qualities of a good breeder cannot be learned.

A variety of dog toys are a mandatory requirement because puppies need things for playing and chewing. Be sure to keep the breeder's phone number handy because this is a valuable resource when you need trusted information.odle Care

Pet owners are always concerned with the proper way to care for their animals and when you decide to invest in a beagle for your family pet then your first concern should be the proper beagle health care tips. Owning a pet is a lot of work but there are some very simple ideas you can use to help keep your beagle healthy and happy and a part of your family for many years to come. Make sure regular visit to the vet is part of your beagle's health plan and contact the vet if persistent problems arise.

One thing people always wonder about is what is considered a healthy diet for your beagle? Dogs in general benefit from a healthy diet of vet approved dog food but you should augment your dog's daily diet with other foods as well to help them grow healthy. Properly cooked meats and even raw vegetables and fruits are wonderful for a dog's health. Remember that human beings have not cornered the market on eating food and that all animals eat food, it is just a matter of feeding your animal the right kinds of food.

Beagles have a very thick coat so a major part of proper beagle health is to make sure that their coat is clean and that nothing has a chance to get in there and cause any major health problems. Plan on bathing your beagle at least once a month and if your beagle goes outdoors at all, or comes into contact with dirty situations, then plan on bathing them more often than once a month.

Beagles have very thick coats and their coats can gather a lot of dirt and other problematic elements that can potentially cause problems with your beagle if these go unchecked. Along with that is the contact your beagle will have with your family and if you allow dirt to collect in the beagle's coat then eventually everyone suffers.

Proper grooming is also very important to your beagle, as their thick coat can be a problem for them. You should plan on regularly brushing your beagle as their thick coat can sometimes get tangles and snarls that can cause potential health issues down the road. Another very important part of beagle health is maintaining the length of their nails. If you are going to try and clip them yourself then be very careful because beagles are notorious for hating getting their nails clipped.

Beagle health concerns are much more than just providing a balanced diet and bathing. Your beagle's ears are famous for not only their look, but also their ability to block the proper airflow in and out of the dog's ear. Check under you beagle's floppy ears regularly and if you see any build up then contact your vet right away.

Your beagle's teeth are also in need of attention and this is a process that starts when they are very young. As a puppy get your beagle used to your finger gently rubbing across their teeth. As they get used to it then add a small wrap of wet gauze to your finger with some baking soda.

After a while add wet gauze to your finger and if that goes well then proceed to a dog toothbrush. Your beagle's health is your concern so be careful and take care of your pet.

by Rebecca Foxton

We have all seen those adorable faces and tiny whiffling noses pressed up against the glass and been tempted to get a puppy from the pet store. Have you ever considered though where those puppies are sourced from, if not a local breeder?

In a relatively small number of cases that might be true, but the fact remains that puppy mills supply huge numbers of puppies every year to pet stores, internet sales and even apparently reputable dog breeders' sites. What is a puppy mill? you may ask. The answer may shock you.

Puppy mills are canine intensive breeding plants, where literally thousands of puppies are bred to supply the pet industry. It's a sad life for a puppy mill puppy, from the very start.

Poor health, temperament issues and hereditary diseases are often the legacy of being bred at a Puppy Mill. Socialization rarely occurs as the puppies are taken away from their mother early, thus depriving them of these skills.

Poor health is contributed to by a lack of decent food and water, terrible cramped living conditions and overcrowding; and there is little chance for them to experience positive human interaction before being transported to the pet store

Usually when breeding dogs, breeders will study the blood line of each of the parents to check whether there is any risk of inherited diseases, so that they breed a healthy puppy. Medical and vaccination programs will also be adhered to, until the time they are released to a loving home.

You can check when buying a pedigree puppy if they come from a respectable breeder, by first visiting the premises, but also they should give you a certificate of bloodline. You should also get a guarantee, check with the breeder about the fine details; but you should not ever have to "exchange" the puppy.

It's a far cry from the puppy mill, where money is the main motivator. The goal is a conveyor belt of puppies to maximize profits. There is no interest in screening parents, checking for disease or making sure bloodlines remain clean, which can lead to a huge amount of problems.

The bitches have the worst deal, as they will be made to breed relentlessly in miserable health conditions. And once spent from this terrible life, they will be rewarded with abandonment or death.

Although there are laws Puppy mills still flourish. The only way to stop them is to remove the demand by refusing to buy a puppy unless you know its origins, or if it is from an animal shelter.

It is imperative that you don't buy a puppy from a mill to rescue him. It is creating a demand for another puppy to be bred into a life of suffering. Contact the appropriate bodies, and demand they take action.

Puppy mills only exist because of the end consumer, so buy puppies responsibly and ask some tough questions the next time you see puppies for sale.

by Rebecca Foxton

Ear mite infections are a big problem for both cats and dogs. If you watch your cat or dog and notice some changes in behavior it could be that your pet has ear mite problems.

Symptoms of an ear mite infestation include shaking of the head vigorously, repeated scratching of the ears, some brown colored discharge, possibly some malodor and apparent pain when the ears are touched.

So who are these tiny pests, the ear mites? They are minute parasites that live in the lining of the ear canal.

Feeding on blood, they bite through the lining of the ear, which creates swelling and discomfort for your animal.

Yeast and bacterial infections are in store for your pet if you don't take action against an ear mite problem.

If you still do nothing your pet could lose his hearing or require expensive surgery.

Bad news if you have more than one pet too as ear mites can be passed from one animal to another.

This is especially bad news as an ear mite infection in one animal in a kennel or cattery can spread like wildfire throughout the whole community.

Treat all animals at the same time to ensure you don't get repeated re-infections.

Although both dogs and cats may contract ear mites, you should take special car if you are the proud owner of a spaniel as their glorious long haired long ears are especially attractive to ear mites.

Luckily there are treatments to help get rid and prevent ear mite infections. PNP Healthy Ears Ear Cleanser for Dogs is made from a range of mild and gentle components that softly rid the ear of dirt and wax and other discharge from the ear.

Clean ears are less susceptible to infection and the specially designed applicator makes this product simple to apply. You can use it on an ongoing basis and it is especially recommended for after swims.

Lambert Kay Ear Rite Insecticidal Ear Wash is another great ear cleaner product in the battle against ear mite infections.

It helps clean the external ear surfaces, preventing infection. If you want to keep your pet's ears dry, try ClearQuest Ear Powder.

It will get rid of any odor problems and will keep ears dry, leading to fewer yeast-type infections.

If you are looking for a clean and easy way to do the job of keeping your pet's ears clean, consider ClearQuest Ear Wipes.

Cosequin is just one of many supplements on the market. If you have heard of it, or bought it, you probably have a dog with joint issues.

It's time to put Cosequin in the spotlight. We are going to study the details of Cosequin so that when you are shopping again you will know what you are buying.

Cosequin is not the name of a drug; it is simply a brand name for a joint support supplement. Healthy Joints Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM? is another example of a joint support supplement brand. They are very similar products and carry out similar functions.

Glucosamine and Chondroitin are the principal ingredients in these supplements. In fact, they are the only ingredients in Cosequin. Other joint support formulae include MSM, or Methylsulfonylmethane, an active ingredient Cosequin does not contain.

So let's look at MSM, and why it's important that Cosequin does not contain it; it is noted as being crucial in pain and swelling control. For an animal with arthritis MSM is a must-have in a supplement.

Cosequin clearly is not the ideal choice for pets with arthritis. However if arthritis is not the issue, it might be perfectly adequate for a Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplement.

Consequin is a good product for dogs with limited needs; it comes in different strengths and as both chewables and capsules. But if you are looking for a brand which contains MSM, Consequin is not the product for you.

It might be that your vet has told you to give your dog Consequin on his last examination; but this might not be a literal suggestion, he might be recommending ANY premium joint product. Cosequin may be one of many options.

Most supplements are interchangeable, but you should ask your vet exactly what supplements are required so you can choose a product that suits your dog's needs exactly. It may be that Cosequin isn't the best product for one dog, but is for another.

The holy trinity of MSM, Glucosamine and Chondroitin can be found in a variety of products. Pet Nutrition products are created from the best ingredients and you can be sure what you get in the bottle is what is described.

Interestingly enough it has been proven that many brands do not label accurately, so you may be wasting money on an inferior product.

by Brooke Sunderland

It is very safe to say that the Labrador is the most popular breed of dog in the world. Whether it is being employed as an assistance dog like a seeing eye dog, or as a family pet or hunting dog, the Labrador dog is highly coveted because it has all of the positive personality traits that any owner is looking for. Knowing what to expect from your Labrador dog can make your life a lot easier and you would be hard pressed to find any family situation that the Labrador dog did not fit into.

For professional people to trust a breed of dog to be a seeing eye dog then that dog must be obedient. In order to be a good family pet a dog must also be obedient. The Labrador dog is known for its obedience and as long as the dog knows it can trust you then it will follow your every command and make daily task training extremely simple.

In order to be a working dog, or what many people call an assistance dog, the Labrador dog must also be very intelligent. The Labrador dog is well known for its intelligence, which also makes it very easy to train. It not only makes the Labrador dog easy to train but it assures that the dog will retain much more of the important lessons it needs to learn in order to do the things it is asked to do in its every day life.

A properly trained Labrador dog can also be a wonderful and fun companion for children that are not too small to be running around with a dog. The well trained Labrador dog knows when it is playing too rough and can also tell when someone has been injured. They make wonderful friends to children and they can also be a lot of fun for the whole family as the Labrador dog is known to love to play.

It has been mentioned that a properly trained Labrador dog can be a wonderful play companion for the whole family, but what about an untrained Labrador dog? If you do not teach your Labrador dog the limits of proper play activity then it can tend to get out of control and play very rough even with children.

It is essential to teach your Labrador dog the boundaries of good play activity so that it knows when enough is enough so that you may avoid anyone getting hurt when the dog really doesn't mean to hurt anyone at all.

If you take an overall look at the Labrador dog it is not difficult to see why it is the most popular dog in the world. When you add to it the fact that it can also be extremely loyal you quickly start to see why so many people trust their families, and their very lives, to this wonderful breed of dog.

Intelligent, obedient, energetic and extremely loyal are just some of the traits of the Labrador dog. There is no more popular breed of dog in the world and when you put everything together that makes it a good breed of dog there is no wonder why so many people love to have a Labrador dog for their family or their every day life.

Just like any new pet owner, you are excited because there is an addition to the household.

by Joseph Then

Just like any new pet owner, you are excited because there is an addition to the household.

However, after picking up your dog and bringing your pet into your home, you realize that your dog is quite dominant and hard to control. What do you do? Some of you may say you will start to train your dog. Wait! Do you know what you are talking about? How do you train a dog? Do you know what you are going to do when the dog keeps barking? Yes, it is not that simple. Just like with any tasks, don't come unprepared. Understanding and knowledge are both essential so take the time to know why dogs behave that way.

If you haven't already known this, a dog is a descendant of wolves. I am sure that you know dogs have been domesticated thousands of years before but there is also another thing that you should know. There are some characteristics similar to a wolf that is by instinct ingrained within your pet. An example would be how it does things. The dog uses its sense of smell to tell its surroundings. Unlike us, we use all our five senses. What I am trying to say is that although dos have been domesticated for thousands of years now, they still retain some of their most basic instincts. You have to keep that in mind before going off to tame your dog.

So what do you do when you feel that the time is right for you to train your dog? Wait! There are a few thing s you need to keep in mind. They are: Focus, Take Control and claim all things as your possession that is inside the house, of course.

The first thing that we are going to talk about is focus. I understand that it might me very challenging to keep you cool especially if your dog is very annoying and just keeps barking. What do you do if your dig is annoying? Beat them? Yell at them? Let me tell you this, it won't do you any good. What you need to do is that you should remain calm. You should remain calm at all times.

The next part of training is taking control. How do you take control? No, you do not yell. Instead, you should always maintain eye contact and make sure that you are firm when teaching your dog new things. By maintaining this, you will let your dog know that you are in charge and the one who has the authority. The submissive dogs will look away but not the dominant ones. Therefore, you should always remember to look your dog in the eyes and be firm.

The last part of training is to claim all things as yours whether this is about toys, food; rugs and so on stand your ground. You should only share your things with your dog when he understands that you are the one in charge.

Now that you are armed with this knowledge, you can continue teaching your pet. Sometimes, it requires some time until the desired results are achieved. Not only you should keep this in mind, you should always remember to give tender loving care to your pet.
