In order to provide the best Havanese care for your precious puppy possible, you need to have a vet picked out before you bring your Havanese home. This is not always possible, but it is the most desired circumstance. You need to know where the emergency vet is and decide who is going to be your Havanese's main vet. Depending on where you live, you might have several vets to choose from.

If your canine companion should contract one of the allergies effecting Havanese (which also effect most breeds of dogs), then you need to have a good relationship with your vet. You need your vet to give your dog a proper diagnosis, and you also need to be as accurate in your information as possible. Vets are very busy, so try not to take any hurriedness or inattention to you they show personally. They are focused on getting the right treatment for your Havanese as soon as possible, rest assured.

It is perfectly all right to ask your prospective veterinarian what kind of experience he or she has had with small dogs, and not just animals in general. Although the days of general veterinary practices are numbered, there are those vets out there who are still jack-of-all-trades.

Vets now specialize in "regular", exotic pets or livestock, and some specialize in cats or dogs. Some veterinary practices will have diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, and some won't.

A vet's education never ends - at least it shouldn't end. There should be times when the vet is off to conferences or classes on the latest veterinary techniques. Your regular vet should be able to provide you with an emergency vet's contact information if you were too lazy to get one before you brought you dog home. Havanese care isn't too difficult, but it is always better to be safe than sorry.

That new ingredient will then be the culprit. You need to be sure everyone in the family knows about the diagnostic process and not feed tidbits to your dog.

Your vet will most likely ask you a lot of questions about anything that touches your dog. This would include cleaners, plants, gardening supplies and toys. You two will have to work like Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to hunt down and point the finger at your dog's allergen.

You might have to bring I the bottles or labels of all of the items you use in Havanese care - shampoo, flea powder, laundry detergent for their blankets, for example. Being cooperative and patient will help your vet uncover the cause of your Havanese' allergy.
